2. What data we collect

We collect only the information we need to run the site, understand how it’s used, and stay in touch if you choose.

a) Information you provide directly

  • Newsletter sign-up – your email address (via Substack or another email provider).

  • Contact – your name, email address and any information you include if you email us or fill in a contact form.

We don’t currently run user accounts or take payments on this site.

b) Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, we and our providers may collect:

  • IP address and approximate location (country/region)

  • Device and browser information

  • Pages visited and actions taken

  • Referring website or link

This is standard web analytics data and is usually aggregated and anonymised.

3. How we use your data

We use your information to:

  • Run and maintain the website

  • Respond to messages and enquiries

  • Send newsletters and updates if you’ve subscribed

  • Understand how our content is being used so we can improve it

  • Keep the site secure and prevent misuse

We do not sell your personal data or use it for ad targeting.

4. Legal bases (UK GDPR)

Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent – for sending you newsletters and updates (you can unsubscribe at any time).

  • Legitimate interests – for running basic analytics, maintaining site security, and responding to enquiries in a way that’s reasonable and expected.

5. Cookies & analytics

Our site may use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Basic site functionality and performance

  • Anonymous analytics (for example via Google Analytics or Squarespace’s built-in analytics)

We currently use only basic analytics and do not run advertising cookies.

You can:

  • Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies

  • Use any cookie banner or preferences we provide on the site (once analytics are enabled)

When we add or change analytics tools, we’ll update this policy and, where required, update the cookie notice.

6. Who we share data with

We only share personal data with trusted service providers who help us run the studio and this site, such as:

  • Website hosting and platform providers (e.g. Squarespace)

  • Email newsletter platforms (e.g. Substack or similar)

  • Analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics, if enabled and where relevant)

These providers are only allowed to process your data on our behalf and must keep it secure. We don’t allow them to use your data for their own unrelated purposes.

Some of these providers may be located outside the UK/EEA. Where that’s the case, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above, for example:

  • Newsletter data – until you unsubscribe or we close the list

  • Enquiry emails – for as long as needed to handle your request and maintain reasonable business records

  • Analytics data – according to the retention periods of the tools we use (typically aggregated and anonymised over time)

We review what we hold periodically and delete data that is no longer needed.

8. Your rights

If you’re in the UK or EU, you have rights over your personal data, including:

  • Access – to know what personal data we hold about you

  • Correction – to update or correct your data

  • Deletion – to ask us to delete your data where we have no legal reason to keep it

  • Restriction – to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances

  • Objection – to certain types of processing based on legitimate interests

  • Withdrawal of consent – for example, unsubscribing from the newsletter at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please email hello@solkimstudio.com.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK if you’re unhappy with how we handle your data:

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add new tools or services.

When we make significant changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top and, where appropriate, highlight the change on the site.
